This course has been rigorous yet worthwhile. As a teacher, it is common knowledge that throwing technology into a lesson does not necessarily improve instruction or increase student engagement. To effectively address the learning needs of 21st Century K-12 students through technology integration this course helped me recognize that learners want to learn in a fun environment that addresses their diverse interests and skills in a manner that is culturally relevant to them. The LoTi Sniff test and LoTi charts help put the expectations in perspective so that as a teacher, I may continuously reflect on effective technology integration strategies that maximize student engagement.
In addition, learning opportunities from real world experts also increase student engagement and this class helped me adopt technology integration initiatives that improve increase student engagement and learning. When all components of increasing student engagement are embedded into a lesson, students are able to achieve success in learning, communication and life skills, which are the intended purposes of the NETS-S standards. Therefore, as Technology Coaches, it becomes necessary to continuously reflect on our professional growth and practices:
Many teachers, (especially veteran teachers) struggle to make the mental shift between the traditional teaching and technology integrated teaching. This class gets us thinking about how can we motivate all teachers to develop a positive outlook for effective technology integration as they develop learning activities for K-12 learners?
