Introduction
Introduction
My name is Chioma Anuebunwa. I earned my Bachelors degree in English and Literary Studies (2003) from Imo State University. In 2004, I moved from Nigeria to England with plans to pursue a graduate degree. That goal was put on hold when I met my husband and joined him here in the United States in 2005. We are blessed with a son and a daughter.
Shortly after I had settled here in America, I continued my quest for higher education and earned three additional degrees: Bachelor of Science, English Education; and Master of Education degree, English concentration (2008). In 2017, I concluded the Educational Specialist post masters degree in Instructional Technology at Kennesaw State University.
My career began at Minot State University as a Writing Coach to exchange students who were in Minot, North Dakota to pursue their M.B.A degree from different parts of the world - Asia, Africa, Europe. In 2010, I moved to Georgia and co-launched Grades Up Learning with my sister, a tutoring center in the Alpharetta area. After a few years of running the center, I proceeded to become a Special Education teacher at Hopewell Middle School, Alpharetta, GA in 2013.
Out of a desire to improve my professional practice and equip my students with 21st century digital skills that increase student engagement, I went back to school in January, 2016 to pursue my 4th degree, a Post Masters (Ed.S) in Instructional Technology. Shortly after I enrolled in this program, I joined Kennesaw State University as an Instructional Technology Specialist to engage K-12 schools with Technology Integration and Personalized Learning initiatives in Fulton County Schools.
My passion for Education motivates me to continually advocate for inclusive education, which has inspired me to set up a non-profit in Africa to support children with special needs. The foundation consults with individuals who care for them at their places of education (Schools), socialization (Recreational Centers) and nurture (Home), for a wholesome life experience. My professional experience ranges from entrepreneur to classroom teacher and educational technology Consultant; the most recent, a philanthropist.
I believe that charity begins at home. As a citizen of a third world country, it is humbling to receive western world education and professional experience. I have a vision that this exposure would greatly benefit individuals with special needs and the general population of 21st century learners around the globe. I am confident that a Post Masters in Instructional Technology would facilitate effective instructional practices to transform teaching and learning.
