Vision
I have a vision that technology will be used in P-12 settings to inspire creativity in all students regardless of socio-economic status, gender, intellectual ability or language barrier. It will be used to build relationships that promote the social, emotional and academic well-being of all students. We accomplish this by actively engaging students with authentic learning opportunities and community members in safe, digital, and physical learning environments. The inclusive approach of this vision leads every student to self-discovery as they become individually prepared to apply digital competence, productivity, and develop self-confidence that prepares them to adapt beyond the school environment in an ever-changing global community.
As a tool, technology and can be used to improve our relationships with community members through digital devices such as video conferencing tools. For example, students may use video conferencing to connect with a local farmer to discuss the life cycle of a plant; hence, a relationship is established with the farmer who is a community member, while creating an authentic learning opportunity for students. Social interaction is encouraged, which in turn contributes to the emotional well-being of students. Relationships are a key component of this vision because “human interaction remains the key component of changing education now and in the future” (Sheninger, pg. 191). The inclusive approach to a technology vision continues to align with the idea of building relationships regardless of our intellectual, physical, financial or ideological differences. In other words, no student is left behind. Technology will increase opportunities for personalizing student academic needs and lead to self-awareness. Students will discover their very own potential and become prepared to thrive in a global community.
